Arlington High School is hiring a Secondary Agriculture Sciences (CTE) Teacher (1.0 FTE) for the 2026–2027 school year. This is a continuing position with a strong, established program and active community support. 100% support from your CTE Director as a former Ag teacher and would be your direct supervisor and evaluator.

Position Highlights:

The High School CTE Teacher – CTE provides learning opportunities and instruction to students. They are to provide leadership, service, and extended learning opportunities for students that are aligned with state frameworks governing the type of CTE curricular area and the appropriate budget provided. This Instructor will provide instruction for Plant Science/Greenhouse/Flori-culture and Agriculture Science courses, as well as also serve as one of the FFA chapter advisors. Position Summary 

Colton School District is seeking a dynamic and student-centered Agriculture Science Teacher and FFA Advisor to lead and grow our Agriculture, Food, and Natural Resources program. This position includes classroom instruction and leadership of the local FFA chapter. 

Professional Qualifications 

  • Valid Washington State Agriculture Science endorsement (or ability to obtain). 
  • Demonstrated professionalism, strong judgment, and positive work ethic. 
  • Successful teaching experience at the middle and/or high school level is preferred. 
  • Strong communication skills with students, staff, families, and community. 
  • Ability to collaborate effectively in a small school setting. 
  • Willingness to take on additional duties as assigned. 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Valid Washington State CTE certificate (or willingness to obtain). 
  • Experience advising FFA and/or student leadership programs. 
  • Knowledge of CTE frameworks and program development. 
  • Familiarity with Washington State’s teacher evaluation system (TPEP) and the Marzano Teacher Evaluation Model is a plus.

Nature of Work 

The Agriculture Teacher will: 

  • Deliver engaging instruction in agriculture, food, and natural resource courses. 
  • Integrate academic and technical skills aligned with CTE standards. 
  • Prepare students for career pathways, post-secondary education, and workforce readiness. 
  • Promote agricultural literacy and real-world application of skills. 
  • Provide equitable and meaningful learning experiences for all students. 
  • Incorporate leadership, public speaking, and career readiness into coursework. 
  •  Create opportunities for students to build skills and knowledge in Agriculture Mechanics, including an emphasis on safety and hands-on experience in wood and metal shop environments. 
  • Potentially assume additional CTE leadership responsibilities, including support of CTE Director duties, as needed. 
  • Note: This position requires time outside of the regular school day and during summer months to support CTE & FFA programming. Supplemental contract days to be negotiated upon hire. 

Instructional Program 

  • Align instruction with Washington State CTE standards and district goals. 
  • Incorporate leadership, communication, and presentation skills into all courses. 
  • Use a variety of instructional strategies to engage students and promote ownership of learning. 
  • Provide opportunities for students to earn Dual Credit through agriculture coursework, as appropriate. 

FFA & Leadership Responsibilities 

The FFA is an integral part of the Agriculture Education program. It is the duty of the teacher to serve as the advisor for the local chapter. The teacher is expected to plan and conduct leadership, citizenship, and cooperative activities for students at the local, district, area, state, and national levels. The teacher is expected to be competent in the following career development events: Soils, Agronomy, all public speaking areas, Parliamentary Procedure, Livestock, etc. 

Responsibilities include: 

A) Supervise Agriculture Education Programs of all students who receive instruction. This will include, but not limited to: 

  • Assisting students in selecting a program that fits their interests and abilities. 
  • Maintain local records: All students in Ag Education and FFA should maintain records. 
  • Making supervisory visits during the school and summer months. 
  • Supervising the school laboratory (and other facilities) used for student agricultural experience. 

B) Prepare and submit FFA rosters, entries, registrations, etc., required by local, district, area, state and office, and keep an accurate file copy of all records and reports. 

C) Evaluation of the Agriculture Education program and materials on an annual basis. 

  • Develop program goals and objectives that are challenging and attainable, aligned with District goals and objectives. 
  • Evaluate outcomes of instruction. 
  • Making changes and adjustments as needed in line with State and District objectives. 

D) Supervise students at all off-campus activities such as conventions, fairs, contests, workshops, field trips, etc., associated with Agriculture Education and FFA program 

E) The teacher should maintain a summer program that includes FFA activities, teacher in-service, program development and educational activities. The teacher should work with administration to develop and carry out these programs. 

F) The Agriculture Education teacher is expected to collaborate closely with district administration, staff, local and county agriculture organizations, the advisory committee, and work directly with the District CTE Director to support program development, compliance, and continuous improvement.
